Muhammed Umair Mushtaq, MD
Dr. Muhammad Umair Mushtaq is an Associate Professor in the Division of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) in Kansas City. Dr. Mushtaq joined KUMC in July 2020 after extensive experience across diverse clinical and research settings in the US and abroad. He completed his medical school in Pakistan in 2010, an internal medicine residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago in 2017, and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020. He leads investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored clinical trials and collaborates with several consortia to study real-world outcomes.
Over the past five years, he has published more than 75 manuscripts and presented over 250 abstracts at national conferences. His leadership is recognized through awards like the 2021 Robert Korngold Award and the 2023 Karl and Irene Eisemann Award. He has established a research laboratory, mentored over 100 students and residents, and directs the Global Health Program at KU, advancing HCT and cellular therapy capacity in low- and middle-income countries. His promotion to Associate Professor in July 2024 highlights his leadership and commitment to research and clinical excellence.
