NMDP (Minneapolis, Minnesota) was established in 1987. It is the world leader in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) donor registry and graft procurement management, and operates the world’s largest HCT-related Research Sample Repository. The Repository includes specimens for >70,000 unrelated donor-recipient pairs and >11,000 related pairs and >485,000 aliquots collected from >5,600 patients as part of BMT CTN trials. NMDP has a large network of donor, collection, and transplant centers as well as cord blood banks; a skilled Contracts and Procurement Department that manages contracts with 177 US and international transplant centers and maintains contractual relationships with specimen repositories and contract laboratories, including centers and laboratories participating in BMT CTN trials; an experienced Patient Services department that provides educational and counseling services to patients in need of a transplant and assists in developing materials for patients on BMT CTN trials; and a Case Management department that facilitates most of the unrelated donor transplantations performed in the US. Staff from the CIBMTR’s Resource for Clinical Investigation in BMT (RCI BMT), housed at NMDP, assist with site and data management on select Network trials.
Together, the MCW and NMDP operate the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).
