BMT CTN Study Results

We are very thankful to everyone who has taken part in BMT CTN studies. Because of you, researchers can learn more about blood and marrow transplants and cell therapies, helping to improve care for patients now and in the future. We truly couldn’t do this important work without you.

On this page, you’ll find simple summaries of study results written in easy-to-understand language. You can click through the drop-down sections to explore the results.

If you’re interested in studies that are currently looking for participants, please visit the Enrolling Studies page.

If you were a part of any of the studies listed below and have questions about your participation, please contact your study doctor or the study staff. Thank you for your impact on clinical research!

BMT CTN Study: 1506 AML FLT3 Maintenance Therapy

A multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III trial of the FLT3 inhibitor gilteritinib administered as maintenance therapy following allogeneic transplant for patients with FLT3/ITD AML

Publication Date: May 27, 2024

Brief Summary:

This study helped us learn more about giving the medicine gilteritinib after transplant for patients who have FLT3 Acute Myeloid Leukemia. There were about 350 patients that participated in this study.

BMT CTN Study: 1507 Haplo Sickle Cell [Adult Cohort]
Reduced Intensity Conditioning for Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplantation in Patients with Symptomatic Sickle Cell Disease

Publication Date: March 4, 2025

Brief Summary:
This study helped us learn more about certain medications that can make transplant safer for adults with sickle cell disease. There were about 40 teens and young adults that participated in this study.

BMT CTN Study: 1503 STRIDE2
A Study to Compare Bone Marrow Transplantation to Standard Care in Adolescents and Young Adults with Severe Sickle Cell Disease

Publication Date: March 11, 2025

Brief Summary:
This study helped us learn that blood or marrow transplant (BMT) is one good option for treating sickle cell disease. There were about 110 people with sickle cell that participated in this study.

Transplant Side Effects or Other Topics

BMT CTN Study: 2101 COVID-19 Vaccine

Prospective Observational Study of the Immunogenicity of Vaccines for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) after Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HCT), Allogeneic HCT, and Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy

Publication Date: August 16, 2024

Brief Summary:

This study helped us learn that COVID-19 vaccines are helpful when given in the first four months after blood or marrow transplant (BMT) or cellular therapies (CAR-T). Researchers studied almost 500 people that had BMT or CAR-T therapy within the past year for this study.

View Patient Summary: Transplant patients should get vaccinated for COVID-19 early

BMT CTN Study: 1702 Donor Cell Cohort

Clinical Transplant-Related Long-term Outcomes of Alternative donor Allogeneic Transplantation

Publication Date: November 1, 2025

Brief Summary: This study helped us learn that transplant should not be delayed while waiting for a fully matched donor. There were about 1,800 people that participated in this study.

View Patient Summary: For patients unlikely to have a fully matched donor, their team should quickly switch to searching for alternate (mismatched) donors

BMT CTN Study: 1704 CHARM

Composite Health Assessment Model for Older Adults: Applying Pre-transplant Comorbidity, Geriatric Assessment, and Biomarkers to Predict Non-Relapse Mortality after Allogeneic Transplantation

Publication Date: October 2025

Brief Summary:

This study helped us learn more about how the CHARM score predicts people’s quality of life and function after transplant. There were about 1,100 people, aged 60 and older, that participated in this study.
