Next Generation Scholar Program

Advancing The Next Generation Of Clinical Trialists In Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation And Cellular Therapy

Overview

The BMT CTN is committed to mentoring and providing career-enhancing opportunities to the next generation of clinical trialists with a focus on developing the necessary skills to conduct well-designed trials in the challenging field of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and cellular therapy within the context of a cooperative group. To nurture this next generation, BMT CTN commits to encouraging participation of early stage investigators at Steering Committee meetings and appointing them to protocol teams and technical committees. Additionally, the BMT CTN Leadership Training Program (Program) provides a formal program of didactics, networking and participatory experiences to give future BMT CTN leaders a more in-depth understanding of the Network and HCT/cellular therapy clinical trials.

The Program is a one year experience beginning with the annual June BMT CTN Steering Committee meeting. Participants (BMT CTN Scholars) will attend in person lectures and workshops at the June and October Steering Committee meetings and 2-4 additional virtual sessions during the year focusing on BMT CTN processes and policies, multi-center clinical trial design, managing a clinical research team, strategies for efficient activation and accrual, enhancing access to trials for all patients and other issues pertinent to being a leader in HCT/cellular therapy clinical research through the BMT CTN. The development of proposals optimized for success in a multi-center clinical trial network will be emphasized. Opportunities for networking with peers and senior BMT CTN leaders will be provided. At the conclusion of the experience, participants should feel comfortable being a site principal investigator (PI) for BMT CTN trials, participating in BMT CTN protocol teams and committees, and developing concepts for consideration by the Network. Note, this is not a Program for teaching clinical trial design. Participants should already have experience writing study protocols and being site PIs for single or multicenter trials.
